Why is 'Fueled for Faith' so important...
The primary reason for evangelisation is the love of Jesus and spreading this love to others (Pope Frances, Evangelii, Gaudium, 2013 #264). To build a community of missionary disciples, all members of the Christian community must make a commitment to the pursuit of life-long faith formation for themselves and others through catechesis and religious education (Groome, 2008).
Fueled for Faith is a way in which families, schools and parish in the context of a learning community, can work together to build a stronger, dynamic faith community at St Joseph’s to fulfil the evangelical mission of the Church. In the Vatican 11 document, ‘Ad Gentes’ the council fathers redirected the Church’s focus to the founding fathers’ ideal of the Church being missionary in nature. The importance of renewal of mission for the Church was and still is being reiterated by various popes. Paul V1 in ‘Evangelii Nuntuandi’ states, ‘Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper for the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize’ (Paul V1, Evangelii Nuntiandi #14). John Paul 11 in ‘Redemptoris Missio’ adds emphasis by stating, ‘the church is missionary by her nature’ (John Paul 11, Redemptoris Missio #5). Still today Pope Frances in ‘Evangelii Gaudium’ calls us to be a community of missionary disciples (Pope Frances, Evangelii Gaudium’ #120). He believes that if we take up this missionary option we will be transformed (Connolly, 2015).
The process of evangelization builds the church from the outside by bringing people in (the traditional view) and building from within by enriching and maturing people’s faith and rekindling the spirit of those who have left the church (Whenman, 2004). Groome (2003) suggests these people need to be informed and formed before they can be transformed.
In a parish based learning community meaningful catechesis and religious education are
necessary instruments to achieve this transformation.
The fundamental tasks of catechesis, which all need to be explored to deepen your faith,
help us to know, celebrate and contemplate the mystery of Christ.

Fueled for Faith begins this journey by offering to explore the knowledge of faith, preparing for community life, and Spiritual Formation which helps us prepare for our mission of evangelisation. Once we are familiar with this platform of learning we then can extend this site to explore the remaining tasks of catechesis that have not been addressed as yet.
